The Visual

The Visual is an alternative formation founded by the duo of Anna van Rij (vocals/guitar) and Timon Persoon (synths/electronics). They met while studying at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Outside the lessons, they organically created a vocabulary all their own. For example, the duo composed imaginary soundtracks for existing film scenes; Van Rij recited Sylvia Plath's poetry over Persoon's experimental soundscapes.

After the successful breakthrough album 'Moments Of Being' (2019), The Visual continues to grow from the dreamy, dark sound that drew wax lyrical responses from the likes of 3voor12 and NME. On forthcoming full-length 'The Spirit Of Age', the band sounds more adventurous, free spirited and dynamic, with sporadic upsurges that wouldn't look out of place on a Nick Cave or Wolf Alice record. The new sound also lets in more warmth, sensuality and benevolence, which you can hear on crystalline first single 'Waves'. 'It's less about the self and we've tried to give more lightness to the world. I wrote from that perspective', says Van Rij.

The live line-up of The Visual is now also new: Van Rij and Persoon are joined by Django Trienes on guitar and Christophe Claeys (Mark Lanegan, Balthazar) on drums.
